Temporary shutdown of Alpart alumina refinery unlikely to dent oversupplied market - sources

Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group (Jisco) plans to temporarily close its Alumina Partners of Jamaica (Alpart) refinery for over a year in the next two to three months, sources told Fastmarkets on Friday August 30.

China's alumina imports surge in July

China imported 200,000 tonnes of alumina in July, quadruple the 50,000 tonnes imported in June and 20 times the 10,000 tonnes imported in the same month last year, according to Chinese customs data released late on Friday August 23.

China adds extra 5% tariff on US-origin copper scrap, aluminium scrap

China’s state council announced on Friday August 23 it would apply an additional 5% and 10% tariff on $75 billion of United States imports, including copper scrap and aluminium scrap.
